spaceup

There have been two SpaceUp un-conferences in the Phoenix, AZ area, held in 2015 and 2019. They were sponsored by a coalition of several space exploration societies and related groups. These events were associated with the Arizona Science and Technology Festival. See these links for info on those events:

Un-Conference Background

A “SpaceUp” is an “un-conference” with the theme of space exploration.  No detailed agenda is prepared in advance, as speakers fill out a program schedule spontaneously at the event. This allows for new topics to pop up based on prior topics and splinter sessions. Think of it as a “pot luck” where everyone brings something to share. The idea is to be as spontaneous as possible.

Traditional Powerpoint presentations are discouraged (but not forbidden) and things like panel, round-tables, demos, etc., are encouraged. The event will be “seeded” with several people willing and ready to give talks. While every attendee is urged to give a talk (or plan a session of just questions!) we will have speakers who are experts on space exploration to ensure the time you spend at SpaceUp Phoenix is worthwhile and who can also answer your questions and be on your panels. The whole vibe is very fun and informal.

From the main SpaceUp website:
“Everyone who attends SpaceUp is encouraged to give a talk, moderate a panel, or start a discussion. Sessions are proposed and scheduled on the day they’re given, which means the usual “hallway conversations” turn into full-fledged topics.”

There is an excellent description of how a SpaceUp works here:
